Thoughts Unit in How to Speed Read
Speed readers use strategies such as word my word, fast reading, faster reading, and speed reading to read faster. Another strategy speed readers use is the thought unit. Similar to eye span, the reader uses a different quest while forming a habit to read one thought after the next. The reader will not concern self with the amount of words he reads. The reader uses a series of eye movements to keep up with thought which requires flexibility. The reader instead of focusing on words focuses on what the author writes. When the writer has large groups of words, the speed reader will employ eye span movements, thus reading two or more words at a time.
Speed readers often practice daily to read fast. Thought unit reading requires a great deal of flexibility, thus most people use various other strategies in speed reading. Still, those who can master the thought unit technique are well on their way to reading as fast as they can digest information.
Overall, it depends on how you read, but if you want to improve you must learn advanced speed readers ways over time to learn how you to can read at rapid speed. Some people simply cannot use thought rather than words to speed read. Sometimes readers find it difficult to use visualization as well while reading information. For now, you can just say you want to read fast and do it. Over time, the more you practice the faster at reading you will become.
At first, you do not want to expect more from you than you can handle. Thus, setting your expectations at a pace you can afford will help you grow as a speed reader. The more you force self to read faster, thus you will start to conform to new reader patterns, which will help you move along in reading.
To help you understand how thought unit strategies work however, we can consider a few tests.
Thought unit:
When the time is right, Paul decided, and then he would ask Mary to join him in marriage. For now, Paul felt that the two of them needed to grow together and learn more about each other. While Paul loved Mary, he wanted to make sure that security was in place and both had the mind set to commit self for life.
Now a thought unit reader would read the information as follow. We can use slashes to separate how a thought unit reader would interpret the meaning.
When the time is right/Paul decided, and then he would ask Mary/to join him in marriage:
You can use the same pattern or break down the sentences as you wish. Of course you want to find material that holds your interest while training to, thought unit read. When material poses no interest to the reader, they will often slow in reading, as well as toss the material to the side eventually. Thus, familiar and interesting material will help you get the most out of training. Eventually, you can move onto heavy material to practice reading faster through the text.
Speed reading overall is learnt techniques that you achieve through reading without cease. If you practice each day you can develop qualities of a speed reader, and with each time you read, you will read faster with each word.
Sometimes you can use markers to help you read faster as well. For instance, place a card or marker over the line you wish to read and go down the page along with each sentence by hiding the following sentence.
